Super Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you have any nostalgia for soft grocery store cookies (think Chewy Chips Ahoy) from childhood but tend not to have cookies on your grocery list anymore, these cookies are for you. They’re simple to make and evoke those packaged cookies from childhood.

  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 12 oz. chocolate chips


Preheat the oven to 350º. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease with cooking spray.

In a large bowl or in the bowl of an electric stand mixer, cream together the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and chocolate chips. Mix until combined.

Roll into balls (about 2 Tbs. in size (you can use a medium #40 cookie scoop) and drop onto the prepared baking sheets.

Bake for 10 to 11 minutes until the edges are just set and the middles are still light and fluffy. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheets for 3 to 4 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
